What do a mountain of baskets, an assortment of gumdrop colored spray paint and a sunny day add up to? Continue reading “Gumdrop Colors, Baskets, and Samples”
Okay, so, I’ve had internet connectivity issues for a while, but this week just took the cake. Up, down, up, down, down for a while, up for two minutes, etc. Called customer service Wednesday after a morning full of continually intermittent, unstable internet connection. So they sent a guy out to change the modem. Fine. Continue reading “Internet issues, grrr”
We were happily surprised by the response to our recent giveaway done in conjunction with the lovely SewCanShe.com website and blog. Most of this past week was spent entering email addresses into our website and trying to figure out how to get the website to behave the way I thought it should! Oh well, our web hosting service received a lot of suggestions this week . . . .
Because of the overwhelming response, we decided to give away three additional FQ bundles to our Facebook fans as a “Thank You”. I think everyone was happy with the unexpected bonus prizes. All of them have been shipped to the winners. Well, except one. Just heard back from the lovely lady in Australia that won and it was too late to post. But, it’s all packed and ready to go to the post office for a little adventure down under!
Honestly, I don’t know what I was expecting by sponsoring the giveaway, but we were floored by how many new visitors the Facebook page received. After all, that is the point of doing promos like that! Anyway, now we can resume the previously scheduled program of sample sewing and the like.
We’ve had a few nice sunny days this week, so have been able to walk Mitzi. So nice to be able to get a little dose of sunshine and exercise after staring at the computer screen so much!
Earlier this week I went to my local fabric distributor’s warehouse. Yes, I’m very lucky to have one VERY nearby! Everyone seemed pretty happy to be shopping – the parking lot was full and all the customers acted like they had been having fabric withdrawals. LOL! It had only been closed a few days for inventory but with the recent holidays, it had been a month or so since my last visit.
One of the best things about visiting (shopping, drooling, petting the fabric) the warehouse is that you never know who you will meet. This week it was a wonderful mother-daughter team that designs and creates Depression style aprons and reversible bags. After visiting their website (http://www.ragamuffinpursedesign.com/), I fell in love with their design sensibility. Anne and Marcia make great fabric choices and put together combinations that are fun, modern and pretty!
Here’s to new friends!
Where did 2014 go?
We’ve spent most of the year adding all of our product to the website and to our Etsy sites. Advertising and Social media outreach was new – this blog, the Facebook page , Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter pages. A couple of buying trips each in the spring and fall. Toss in a couple of cross country trips from Vancouver, WA to Mississippi and Texas for shows, and that takes care of the rest of the year!
In the summer, Miss Audrey and her family moved close by. Yeah! We are so happy to have them. Doesn’t her attitude come through when she’s modeling? She’s a pistol in “Whitney’s Ruffle Neck Romper” by Create Kids Couture. Expect to see more of her in 2015!
What went wrong – oh boy, there were some doozies!
A large spring show turned into a non-event and our entrance fee went the way of the dodo bird. We stepped out of our comfort zone and booked ads in a couple of quilting magazines but the first drop date came and went, Fall Quilt market came and went, no ads, no magazines…. The publishing company had gone out of business! Well, let me just say those two events really knocked us for a loop! Finally, with all the travel time and show prep, social media, newsletters, blog postings were all just a little too sporadic.
BUT, we’ve met wonderful people at the events we have done this year, had wonderful customer feedback, and learned scads while setting up the website!
Hopes and goals for 2015 –
Develop and stick to a schedule for regular blog posts, newsletters and other social media.
LOTS more samples and pictures of the sample making process!
Maybe an open house in the Spring or Fall.
Going with our gut feeling more!
Adding more cute fabrics beyond basics (dots, stripes, solids) to expand our lines and inspire children’s apparel, crafts and quilts. What would YOU like to see? Types of fabrics – whole collections? new designers? new manufacturers? more bundles? new pattern lines? Please let us know!
Thank you for sharing our year. Please join us in 2015!
